Lucknow, September 3: The Anganwadi centers across the state are not merely distributing ration to young children. As per the Hot Cooked Meal Yojana, fresh, hot and nutritious meals are being regularly served to children aged 3 to 6 years. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approximately 32.88 lakh children attending nearly 1.45 lakh co-located and 0.44 lakh non-co-located Anganwadi centers are reaping the benefits of this initiative.
The weekly menu, as set by the Department of Child Development and Nutrition, features a variety of dishes such as roti-sabzi, rice-dal, tahri made with seasonal vegetables, and other wholesome meals. Each child is provided with 70 grams of food grains daily. Besides boosting nutritional levels, the scheme also aims to instill a habit of balanced diet consumption from an early age.
In alignment with the Yogi government's objectives, stringent measures are taken to ensure the quality and hygiene of the food before it is served to the children. The food grains procured from the ration dealer must meet quality standards. Before cooking, the grains undergo thorough cleaning and green vegetables are washed multiple times.
Upon serving the food, at least two adults, such as teachers, cooks, or members of the Mata Samiti, inspect the taste and quality of the meal according to a predetermined schedule. For co-located Anganwadi centers, the food is prepared using the kitchen facilities and resources of the PM Poshan Yojana implemented in primary and upper primary schools.
Conversely, non-co-located centers rely on utensils, gas stoves, and other resources provided by local bodies or Gram Panchayats. Additional Chief Secretary Leena Johri emphasized the regular provision of hot and nutritious food to around 32.88 lakh children under the Hot Cooked Meal Yojana. She highlighted the special focus on maintaining food quality and hygiene, ensuring the safe delivery of meals to the children.
