UDA leaders in Ukambani demand NCIC action against hate speech

Leaders from the UDA in the Ukambani region have urged the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to intervene against those they claim are spreading inflammatory and divisive comments before the 2027 General Election. During an economic empowerment event for women and youth in Kola, Machakos County, the leaders highlighted the need for the NCIC to summon opposition figures accused of remarks that could weaken national unity.

MP Vincent Musyoka stated that the commission should consider more than just issuing summonses; they should also propose legal action against those found culpable of promoting hate speech or causing division. Musyoka also pointed to Siaya Governor James Orengo's claim of his presidential candidacy as evidence of increasing divisions within the opposition.

He further accused former President Uhuru Kenyatta of funding opposition activities. Former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita called for peaceful politics, urging residents to support government leaders who are delivering development projects. Kalama MCA Bonface Maeke advised residents to prioritize a leader's capacity to deliver development over party affiliations.

Machakos Town MP Caleb Mule emphasized that UDA-led meetings were not political rallies but aimed at economically empowering women, stressing that UDA is fostering social transformation at the grassroots. The leaders also encouraged both sides in the ongoing budget dispute between the Machakos governor and county assembly members to engage in dialogue and resolve the issue in line with the Constitution.
