Tuan Ibrahim: PAS can't rely on family ties to win youths, tackle their concerns instead

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man expressed support for holding the next general election (GE16) early, according to a statement he made today. He argued that this would allow the mandate to return to the people and provide an opportunity to choose a new government, given the uncertain political climate in the nation. Speaking at a press conference after launching the PAS Youth muktamar, Tuan Ibrahim emphasized the need to break free from the current political situation.

Earlier today, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had suggested that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim should call for GE16 to be held early, rather than waiting for the automatic dissolution of Parliament at the end of the next year. Zahid indicated that the Umno-led coalition would be prepared to proceed if the prime minister decided to extend the government's term.

Tuan Ibrahim further explained that elections for several states could be conducted simultaneously with GE16, which could help reduce expenses for the Election Commission. He noted that people had been enduring prolonged politicking for over a year and were weary of the situation.

Tuan Ibrahim expressed optimism that the PAS and Umno negotiation teams could reach an agreement on seat allocations for the upcoming Melaka state election. He highlighted the importance of consensus, stating that if all parties could agree, a way would be found to minimize clashes between parties. He stressed that the PAS's goal of uniting the ummah was not limited to Malays, but encompassed all Malaysians. However, he reiterated that the Malay majority remains the cornerstone of Malaysian politics.
