Trump plots 30-day blitz to save the GOP

In the final days before the November midterm elections, former President Donald Trump has announced a plan to campaign for Republicans in up to 35 competitive races, according to sources. At a White House Rose Garden dinner with Republican lawmakers, Vice President JD Vance, and several cabinet officials, Trump outlined his strategy to spend the last 30 days campaigning in these races.

The president did not disclose all the targeted races, but he asked lawmakers to identify close contests where his support could make a difference. Trump plans to travel to each of the 35 races, with additional tele-town halls to directly reach voters in the weeks leading up to the election on November 3. He specifically plans to campaign in Alaska for incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan and in Texas for state Attorney General Ken Paxton, who faces Democrat James Talarico in a tight Senate race.

Comparing the upcoming campaign effort to his final four months of the 2024 presidential campaign, Trump emphasized the intense focus and hard work required. Republicans currently hold narrow majorities in both chambers of Congress, with Democrats needing to gain a net three seats to retake the House and four seats to flip the Senate in the November elections. Two closely watched races, one in Alaska and one in Texas, have added complexity to the midterms.
