Truck driver dies after crash at Ngqura harbour in Eastern Cape

A truck driver tragically lost his life on Wednesday night after his vehicle collided at Ngqura harbour in the Eastern Cape, situated near Gqeberha. The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) was promptly notified of a multi-team rescue operation following the incident, which transpired around 6 pm. The truck was found partially submerged, with both its cab and trailer submerged in water.

It is suspected that the driver had been trapped inside the cab under the water. Upon their arrival, the NSRI rescue team provided assistance, acting as a safety vessel while commercial divers and riggers set up technical lifting equipment to recover the truck from the depths. During the recovery process, the body of the deceased adult male driver was discovered and extracted from the water, subsequently being brought ashore via the NSRI rescue craft.
