Toronto’s Rogers Stadium Suffers “Significant Damage” in Powerful Storm

On Wednesday, September 2nd, a powerful storm wreaked "significant damage" on Toronto's newly opened Rogers Stadium, bringing torrential rain, large hail, flooding, and damaging winds to the city. The 50,000-capacity venue, which cost approximately nine months to construct and opened in June 2025, suffered collapsed framing and torn coverings according to Live Nation Canada, which confirmed the damage in a statement.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the extreme weather event. However, the storm caused widespread disruption, affecting thousands of homes and businesses that lost power and major roads that were flooded. The storm's timing could complicate the final stages of Rogers Stadium's concert season. Currently, AC/DC's "Power Up Tour" show scheduled for September 16th is the only remaining event on the venue's calendar.

Rogers Stadium, built as a temporary outdoor venue on the former Downsview Airport lands, is designed to hold 50,000 fans. Despite the damage, the facility has faced numerous complaints from residents and concertgoers regarding traffic congestion, overcrowding, noise, and construction quality. Its inaugural season saw performances by Coldplay, Oasis, BLACKPINK, and Stray Kids. Since its opening, the venue has not been without controversy. Live Nation Canada is still assessing the extent of the required repair work.
