Terrorists using motorcycles given as palliatives, Defence minister warns

The Minister of Defence, Gen Christopher Musa, has cautioned state governors and lawmakers against providing motorcycles as palliatives, as these motorcycles may ultimately end up in the hands of terrorists, aiding their operations. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Musa highlighted the challenge posed by these motorcycles in facilitating terrorist activities, especially in difficult terrains.

Musa urged authorities to refrain from distributing high-capacity motorcycles, suggesting that smaller ones could be given instead. He further warned that motorcycles distributed through various programs by lawmakers could find their way back to terrorist groups. According to him, illegal markets and motor parks are commonly used by terrorists to move arms and ammunition.

The Defence Minister emphasized the need for greater involvement of local governments in combating insecurity, citing their proximity to communities as an advantage in identifying criminals and preventing crime. He proposed that local government chairmen hold regular security meetings and report developments in their areas. Musa also called for the strengthening of monitoring of markets, motor parks, and other venues where drugs, weapons, and ammunition could be transported.
