TCL’s first NXTPAPER phone with AMOLED is also one of its most flagship-like, coming to US

TCL has announced its first NXTPAPER phones with AMOLED displays, the TCL P80 series, following a proof-of-concept demonstration at CES 2026 earlier this year. NXTPAPER display technology is more than a matte coating, but the panel technology has been a limiting factor. While NXTPAPER displays look good, they lack the vibrance and brightness of AMOLED panels used in most other modern smartphones.

This is set to change with the launch of the TCL P80, P80 Pro, and P80 Ultra, featuring a 1.5K NXTPAPER AMOLED display and some of the highest-end packages TCL has ever offered.

All three models are powered by MediaTek chips, with the Ultra and Pro using Dimensity 7400 Elite and the base model sporting a Dimensity 7300 Elite. These are upper-mid-range chips, yet they are considerably more powerful than TCL's usual offerings. Each phone sports a 6.83-inch display. The TCL P80 Ultra boasts two 50MP cameras, including a telephoto lens, while the Pro has the same setup but replaces the telephoto lens with an 8MP ultrawide.

The base model, TCL P80, also has a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultrawide, but it uses a less powerful chipset, has limited storage options of up to 256GB, and offers 8GB of RAM. The base model also comes with a slightly smaller 6,000 mAh battery.

TCL plans to launch these phones in Europe starting today at €349, €429, and €549, respectively. The Ultra model will be supported with 7 years of OS and security updates, while the Pro and base models will receive 3 years of OS updates and 7 years of security updates. TCL has not yet announced an exact timeline for when these phones will be available in the US market.
