Tanjung Lompat drowning: Second victim found, search continues for two

KOTA TINGGI — The second teenager feared drowned at Tanjung Lompat in Bandar Penawar was located by the search and rescue team at 1:53pm today, said Tanjung Sedili Maritime Zone Operations Officer Lieutenant Commander Mohamed Shafiee Bakar.

The 16-year-old victim, Muhammad Thaqif Rayyan Rumainoor, was identified and confirmed by his family. He was found about 800 metres away from the first victim, who was discovered at 1:25pm yesterday, according to Shafiee.

Today marks the second day of the SAR operation, which continues with support from police, Fire and Rescue Department, local community, and fishermen. The search radius remains two nautical miles for the remaining two victims.

Shafiee highlighted the challenge posed by waves reaching 1.5 metres in height. The two victims still missing are Mohamad Haiman Fitri Supian and Muhammad Adib Hafiy Kamal, both 16 years old.

Earlier reports suggested four teenagers went swimming at the beach around 8am yesterday and four were feared drowned, while two were rescued. The incident unfolded when one victim nearly drowned, prompting his friends to attempt a rescue, but they too were likely lost.
