Tabung Haji Act amendments in final stages before parliamentary tabling, says TH CEO

Bangi, Sept 3 — The Tabung Haji (TH) Board has completed 90% of the necessary internal steps to amend the Tabung Haji Act 1995 (Act 535), with the process now set to be submitted to the Cabinet. TH CEO Mustakim Mohamad revealed that the amendment is one of the final actions following the 25 recommendations from the TH Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI).

Currently, 19 out of 25 recommendations have been completed, with the remaining six still in progress. These include changes to Act 535, limiting Bank Negara Malaysia's supervision, and strengthening the disciplinary process. TH Chairman Tan Sri Rashid Hussain said the amendment has been a priority for the past year, involving consultations with relevant regulatory bodies.

The next stages involve ministerial consideration, Cabinet approval, and AG's Department review before tabling in Parliament. The amendments aim to preserve the trust of Muslims and strengthen TH's governance, as previously announced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
