According to Reuters sources within the party, the CDU politician is reportedly set to become the budget rapporteur for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The 46-year-old, who was instrumental in the coalition government alongside Angela Merkel, resigned from his position as faction leader in July following widespread criticism. Subsequent reports suggested that his decision to step down from his post might have been influenced by his decision to father a child through surrogacy in the United States.

His voluntary withdrawal from politics, supported by numerous party colleagues and Chancellor Merkel, sparked a major personnel shuffle within the CDU, the cabinet, and the faction. In recent weeks, it became clear that Spahn intends to retain his Bundestag seat.
