Kidambi Srikanth, the 33-year-old Indian badminton player, made a triumphant return to the quarterfinals of the Super 750 China Masters, defeating Canadian Victor Lai with a score of 21-18, 21-19. This victory marked Srikanth's first appearance in the quarterfinals of a Super 750 or above since June 23. Lai, at World No 9, had struggled against Srikanth throughout the match, despite his explosive play and ability to disrupt Srikanth's rhythm.

Srikanth's net charges and relentless attacks were too much for Lai to handle, ultimately leading to victory. The Canadian's loss was a blow to Indian hopes for a gold medal at the upcoming Asian Games, as Srikanth has the skillset to counter top players such as Lee Cheuk-Yiu, Kodai, and Christo Popov.
