Senior military official calls for joint operational readiness in Indo-Pacific

Seoul's top military official, Lt. Gen. Kwon Dae-won, emphasized the importance of enhanced cooperation in joint operational readiness among nations in the Indo-Pacific region during the Chiefs of Defense Conference in Canada. Addressing the rapidly changing security landscape, Kwon stressed that improving interoperability between countries is crucial for effectively responding to emerging threats.

The Republic of Korea remains committed to promoting regional peace and stability as a dependable security partner, according to Kwon. He reiterated South Korea's dedication to the cause during the high-level military conference, which commenced in 1998 as a platform for regional dialogue on security challenges and military cooperation. This year's conference, co-hosted by the United States and Canada, convened leading military officials from 30 nations.

During the conference, Kwon engaged in bilateral meetings with key partner countries, such as the U.S., Britain, and Australia. At these sessions, he presented South Korea's most recent security assessments regarding the Korean Peninsula and the wider Indo-Pacific region, while also discussing possibilities for expanding bilateral military exchanges, including joint drills, with partner nations, as reported by the JCS.
