Schalke's Dzeko retires from Bosnia and Herzegovina national team

Edin Dzeko, the 40-year-old forward for Schalke, has announced his retirement from the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team. The player made this decision via Instagram, admitting that the Nations League match against Sweden on October 2 will be his last for the national team. Dzeko expressed that this moment had been building, admitting it never fully sank in until now.

He shared that nothing in his career has compared to the pride he's felt every time he wore the national team's shirt. Dzeko, who has played 151 times for Bosnia and Herzegovina and scored 73 goals, debuted for the team in 2007 against Turkey in Euro qualifications. He was part of the squad that participated in this year's World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Dzeko stated that it had been his childhood dream to represent his country on a football pitch 151 times. He concluded by saying he felt it was time to step aside, acknowledging that his entire career was dedicated to the national team. Dzeko remains active at Schalke, with his contract running until June 2027. Bosnia and Herzegovina will face Nations League matches against Poland on September 25 and Romania on September 28 prior to Dzeko's final appearance.
