Ranvir Shorey slams Swara Bhasker over Padmavat’s Jauhar scene comment: ‘Utterly shameless’

Actor Ranvir Shorey has harshly criticized Swara Bhasker's remarks regarding the Jauhar scene in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Padmavat, calling her "utterly shameless." Shorey questioned the connection between the Jauhar scene and rape survivors, arguing that the two subjects are fundamentally different. He expressed his disbelief at her comparison, stating that the intention behind the comparison seems to be to malign one group of people while attempting to whitewash the other.

The Jauhar scene, according to Shorey, is problematic and sends a negative message to rape survivors, implying that surviving the assault is a bad thing. Swara Bhasker had previously written an open letter to Bhansali, expressing her anger over the scene. Padmavat co-writer Prakash Kapadia defended the Jauhar scene, stating that it accurately reflects the historical context and that viewers' interpretations may vary based on their mood and intentions.
