Qatar welcomes over 2.3 million visitors in eight months of 2026

Doha, Qatar witnessed a record 2.338 million visitors arriving through its land, air and sea ports during the first eight months of 2026, showcasing the country's commitment to tourism as part of its economic diversification strategy. Visitor numbers rose in August, with 303,000 people visiting the nation, marking a 6.3 percent increase compared to July's 285,000 arrivals. This upward trend signifies a gradual recovery in tourism activity following earlier fluctuations.

GCC countries accounted for the largest share of tourists, contributing 958,000 visitors or 41 percent of the total. This highlights the importance of Qatar's strategic location, connectivity, and diverse leisure, shopping, and entertainment options for regionally-based travelers. Asia and Oceania, with 489,000 visitors (20.9 percent), followed as the second-largest source market.

Europe, with 486,000 visitors (20.8 percent), rounded out the top three, demonstrating the enduring strength of Qatar's connections with major European markets. The Americas contributed 169,000 visitors (7.2 percent), while Arab countries and Africa contributed 162,000 and 73,000 visitors, respectively, accounting for 6.9 percent and 3.1 percent of total arrivals.

Qatar Tourism's diverse array of experiences, catering to cultural, sports, business, and family-oriented interests, has enabled the country to diversify its visitor markets and establish itself as a year-round destination. The recent 6.3 percent increase in August follows a steady recovery after a sharp drop in visitor numbers to 63,000 in March 2026, after reaching 285,000 in July, 222,000 in June, and 267,000 in May. Earlier, Qatar had welcomed 1.13 million visitors during the first quarter of 2026.
