Punjab will also bear interest and insurance costs: Over 125,000 e-bikes to be provided to students

Punjab will shoulder the burden of interest and insurance expenses for over 125,000 e-bikes to be distributed among talented male and female students via the "CM Maryam Nawaz E-Bike Scheme." During a special meeting chaired by the Punjab Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the government's commitment to covering these additional costs was reaffirmed.

The Chief Minister firmly rejected any proposal that would require students to make a down payment or pay additional charges beyond the monthly installment. A consensus was reached to set the monthly installment for students at approximately Rs3,000. Additionally, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif provisionally approved the expansion of the "CM E-Bike Scheme" to encompass government employees, departments, and public delivery riders in the future.

The Punjab Chief Minister issued orders to launch the e-bike portal this week and to ensure that eligible students receive their e-bikes within a six-week timeframe. Helmets and safety rods would be provided at no cost alongside the e-bikes under the scheme. The e-bikes will be powered by Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries.

In line with the directives from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aspiring students will receive complimentary two-day training on e-bike operation. The initiative, as reported by Business Recorder on 2026, aims to provide a sustainable and environmentally-friendly mode of transportation to deserving students across Punjab.
