President Ramaphosa honours struggle icon Nokuthula Simelane

President Cyril Ramaphosa honored Nokuthula Simelane, a brave struggle icon, with the inaugural Nokuthula Simelane Memorial Lecture at the University of Mpumalanga. Simelane, who disappeared after being abducted by the Special Branch of the apartheid police, was described as a young woman who put her country first. Her sister, Thembisile Simelane, emphasized the importance of continuing the fight for the South Africa in which their sister fought.

President Ramaphosa urged young people to exercise their democratic right to vote and play a meaningful role in transforming the country. A new school in Bethal will be named after Simelane, and the University of Mpumalanga will hold the Nokuthula Simelane Memorial Lecture annually to commemorate her role in the country's liberation.
