PM Modi pays tribute to Bengali film icon Uttam Kumar on birth centenary

On his birth centenary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the legendary Bengali film actor Uttam Kumar, describing his timeless performances that resonate with audiences across generations. Born as Arun Kumar Chattopadhyay on September 3, 1926, and passing away on July 24, 1980, Uttam Kumar's remarkable emotional depth and dignity were lauded by Mahanayak Satyajit Ray.

The Prime Minister shared excerpts from his August 30 radio address, "Mann Ki Baat," where he hailed Uttam Kumar as a versatile actor whose performances have become deeply embedded in people's hearts. Modi emphasized Uttam Kumar's unwavering dedication to his craft, noting that despite initial struggles, he persevered to achieve greatness.

The Prime Minister also recalled a personal encounter with Uttam Kumar's house during a roadshow in Kolkata, where he received a photograph of the late actor as a token of appreciation. Paying homage, Modi expressed that the legendary Uttam Kumar will forever remain in the hearts of the people.
