Planet Labs secures 7-figure European defense contract

Planet Labs, a San Francisco-based company specializing in Earth observation imaging satellites, has secured a significant contract with a European defense and intelligence client. The one-year agreement, valued at seven figures, will allow the customer to access Planet's Mosaics and dedicated professional services support for operational planning in the regions of interest, according to a company press release.

Jon Powers, the Vice President of Global Defense & Intelligence at Planet, highlighted that defense and intelligence organizations depend on the company's satellite solutions to navigate complex security environments. He also emphasized the growing demand for geospatial data and support services in land and maritime sectors. Planet Labs manufactures, operates, and manages a fleet of satellites that generate daily satellite imagery and deliver geospatial solutions to clients across various industries, including agriculture, forestry, intelligence, education, finance, and government.

This contract is the latest in a series of deals announced by the company this year, following agreements with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, the Swedish Armed Forces, and the Defense Innovation Unit. Founded in 2010 and currently traded on the New York Stock Exchange, Planet Labs continues to expand its footprint in the defense and intelligence sector.
