OpenAI throws Astra into the top-tier model ring

OpenAI has unveiled GPT-6 Astra, a top-tier AI model built for Trusted Access Program members. The tech giant has emphasized that Astra is more intelligent than its predecessor, GPT-5.6 Sol, with improved performance in various areas such as computer use, browsing, software engineering, science, and professional work. The pricing for GPT-6 Astra is the same as its predecessor, $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens.

OpenAI describes Astra as the "first of its models to reach the Critical level for cybersecurity capabilities under its Preparedness Framework." This means that Astra has the potential to find unknown security flaws and exploit them across well-protected systems without human intervention. OpenAI also claims that Astra is more robust, better aligned, and safer than its predecessors, with zero instances of overstepping its intended scope during testing.

Additionally, Astra has shown significant improvements in efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness compared to previous models. However, GPT-6 Astra still lags behind more recent competitors like Claude Fable 5.1 in terms of overall competency and cost-effectiveness.
