OpenAI launches GPT-6 Astra, and one of its founders thinks AGI is here

OpenAI has unveiled GPT-6 Astra, the latest iteration of its flagship AI model, boasting significant improvements in software engineering, computer usage, and cybersecurity capabilities. Unlike its predecessor, GPT-6 Astra has surpassed the "Critical" cybersecurity threshold and demonstrates enhanced resistance to jailbreaking techniques compared to GPT-5.6 Sol.

While OpenAI has not officially labeled Astra as Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), the company's president, Greg Brockman, personally believes that "we're there."

Astra is set to be rolled out to paid ChatGPT users and the API within the upcoming week, showcasing OpenAI's commitment to enhancing their AI capabilities. TechCrunch reported that one of the model's founders views Astra as the pinnacle of their development. Specifically, Brockman emphasizes Astra's superior ability to interact with computers and web browsers, as well as its heightened intelligence and prowess in software engineering, particularly in bug detection and navigating large codebases.
