Gospel artist Ohemaa Mercy was visibly moved while talking about the personal tragedy that inspired her hit song, Si Abotare. In an interview on Joy Prime, the singer shared that the tune was a divine message she received during a low point in her life. Ohemaa, a former pupil teacher, recounted how she was humiliated by a loan shark while working in her classroom.

Struggling to pay her debt, she fled the scene while shedding tears. One of her shoes was torn, causing her to walk in pain. The humiliation was so great that she forgot she was being publicly shamed, according to Ohemaa. It took a kind stranger to intervene and settle her debt, allowing her to return to her office in tears. It was then that she heard a voice whisper, "Si abotre twen me," which she interpreted as a call to be patient and trust in God's redemption.
