Nigeria, Niger Customs seek stronger Kamba border trade

The Nigeria Customs Service's Kebbi Area Command recently welcomed a delegation from the Nigerien Customs to discuss issues affecting trade along the Kamba-Tungan Gyado border. The aim was to enhance legitimate trade, generate revenue and improve the welfare of communities on both sides of the border. Attendees included the Customs Area Controller of Kebbi Area Command, Mahmoud Ibrahim, and the Comptroller, Douanes du Dosso, Niger Republic, Abdoulaye Vincent among others.

Comptroller Vincent expressed appreciation for the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for hosting the delegation and called for stronger collaboration, particularly in facilitating trade through the Kamba corridor. He highlighted that insecurity along Burkina Faso and Togo routes, plus diplomatic issues with Benin Republic, had disrupted trade.

Vincent appealed for increased legitimate exports through Kamba to boost revenue and ease economic hardship. In response, the NCS appreciated the initiative and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with Nigerien Customs. The Director of Kebbi Area Command, Ibrahim, promised to sensitize stakeholders on customs procedures and encourage more use of the Kamba corridor.

He emphasized that increased trade would boost revenue, create jobs, and improve livelihoods in border communities. Following the meeting, the Sarkin Shikon Kamba expressed gratitude to the NCS for creating a conducive atmosphere for legitimate business and prayed for the success of the partnership.
