New Bedford, Durfee take Thanksgiving football rivalry to Fenway Park

The New Bedford High School and Durfee High School football teams will play Thanksgiving football rivalry game at Fenway Park in Boston, marking 135th edition of this longstanding matchup. The game will be played on Thanksgiving Eve, specifically at 4 p.m. on November 24. This event is part of four traditional Thanksgiving rivalry games set to take place at Fenway Park on November 24 and 25, as announced by the Boston Red Sox on September 3rd.

General admission tickets cost $20 and allow entry to both games on the same day. New Bedford athletic director Tom Tarpey expressed excitement about the event, stating that both players and staff are looking forward to it. The New Bedford team has historically dominated the series with a record of 85-41-8, playing 116 games on Thanksgiving and 18 non-Thanksgiving meetings.

In contrast, Durfee High School has won three out of the last five Thanksgiving Day meetings, including victories in 2025 (36-0) and 2024 (26-6). New Bedford High School ended the 2025 season with a winless record, while Durfee finished with a 5-6 record in 2025. Head coach Bob Lomp of New Bedford is excited about the opportunity to play at Fenway Park but cautioned against looking too far ahead, as this will be the last game of the season for his team.

He emphasized that it's a great experience for the kids and an exciting way to conclude their season. Lomp also mentioned that if New Bedford can secure a win against Brockton on October 24th and Durfee does the same on October 30th, it could have implications for Big 3 Conference standings.
