N. Korea's Kim stresses role of education at teachers' conference

North Korea's Kim Jong-un has opened the 15th National Conference of Teachers in Pyongyang, emphasizing the critical role of education in the country's development, according to state media. In his opening remarks, Kim stressed that education is the most important state affair that cannot be overshadowed by other fields and hailed teachers as patriots at the forefront of nurturing the nation's future generation.

This marks the first time the teachers' conference has been held since February 2019. Kim particularly acknowledged the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan, or Chongryon, for their dedication as champions of national education rights, who have nurtured the community's youth in their adopted homeland through their patriotic commitment. He described the education sector as undergoing a significant transformation, with changes in its system, content, and environment, describing it as a revolution.

Kim reiterated that education remains the most crucial state affair and called for educators to be held in even higher esteem.
