MoCI, Saudi authority hold workshop on economic concentration rules

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), in collaboration with Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Competition, hosted a specialized workshop on the prior implementation of economic concentration transactions. This virtual event brought together various MoCI personnel, as part of the implementation of a memorandum of understanding between the two entities.

The workshop's primary objective was to bolster comprehension of the risks linked to the pre-transaction preparations, and to distinguish between permissible preparatory steps and prohibited prior implementation, all in support of adhering to competition regulations before regulatory approvals.

Key discussions at the workshop included an exploration of the legal framework governing economic concentration transactions in Qatar, alongside an examination of relevant GCC and international cases and experiences. By doing so, the workshop aimed to promote knowledge dissemination and improve efficiency in competition protection efforts.

The event was organized by the Competition Protection Department at MoCI, in partnership with Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Competition, demonstrating the commitment of both parties to strengthen cooperation and exchange technical expertise in the field of competition regulation.
