MN8, Google and Eos launch clean energy project in West Virginia

Google, MN8 Energy, and Eos Energy Enterprises have launched a clean energy project in West Virginia that will add 86MW of solar power, 70MW/280MWh of lithium-ion storage, and 10MW/100MWh of Eos zinc-based long-duration energy storage (LDES) to the PJM grid. The Mammoth Solar project, set to start generating power in 2028, will be supported by lithium-ion storage by 2029 and long-duration storage in 2030.

The collaboration aims to provide Google with a reliable energy source for its data centers in the region, while also bringing economic benefits to West Virginia. Google's Lucia Tian highlighted the company's commitment to clean energy solutions that support its data center needs and contribute to the development of more affordable energy systems.

Eos' Nathan Kroeker emphasized the importance of deploying American-made long-duration storage systems to enhance grid reliability. The project, estimated to involve $350 million in capital investment, is expected to generate $4 million in property tax revenue for the county and local schools over the first 20 years.
