Mayoral candidate Klein contemplating legal action against Gillingham

Kevin Klein, a mayoral candidate, is contemplating legal action against Mayor Scott Gillingham following his official entry into the race. Klein accused Gillingham of spreading "conspiracy theories" and described him as a "fixer" for convicted sex offender Peter Nygard. Gillingham responded by calling Klein a "fixer" and a supporter of Donald Trump, claiming he was in the middle of a legal review of his comments.

Klein, who announced his intention to run Tuesday, said the mayor's comments were "childish" and "disappointing." He expressed that the situation is "not the type of election I'm going to have." Meanwhile, Gillingham's campaign released a statement highlighting Klein's past vote against pursuing legal action in the police headquarters scandal, which resulted in a $28-million judgment.

Klein defended his decision, stating he wanted more information on the cost to the city. The Manitoba Families Minister, Nahanni Fontaine, criticized Klein for working for the convicted sex offender Peter Nygard, comparing him to Jeffrey Epstein. Klein responded by defending his past employment, stating he had learned to hold himself to a higher account and never get involved in municipal politics.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 500 also criticized Klein, accusing him of being "anti-Canadian" and unfit for the mayoral position.
