Mas extends Vuelta lead, Omrzel wins stage 12

On September 3, Spanish rider Enric Mas widened his overall lead in the Vuelta a Espana during a late attack as Slovenia's Jakob Omrzel claimed stage 12. Mas, representing Movistar, surged from a trailing group with approximately 13 kilometers remaining in the 166.6-kilometer, mountainous route to Calar Alto. Primoz Roglic and Felix Gall, who started the day in second and third positions in the general classification, were unable to match Mas's pace and fell behind as his lead expanded to around two minutes.

Omrzel (riding for Bahrain Victorious) launched his assault from a reduced lead group on the final climb to Calar Alto, sustaining a steady effort to finish almost two minutes ahead of Urko Berrade Fernandez, with Santiago Buitrago in third place.
