Mare Nostrum Revives Cecilio Gallego Memorial for New Season

Club Balonmano Mare Nostrum Torrevieja has announced its plans for the 2026/27 season, which includes the return of the Cecilio Gallego Memorial, a prominent handball event in the city. The tournament's seventh edition will be held on September 12, 2026, at the Cecilio Gallego sports hall, named after the former president of Club Balonmano Torrevieja.

The senior women's match will feature Mare Nostrum against CAB Cartagena at 6pm, followed by the senior men's match against Club Balonmano Almoradí at 8pm. The memorial's revival was announced during the club's official season presentation on September 2, 2026, attended by local officials, players, supporters, and members of the handball community.

Mare Nostrum also introduced a new board of directors, led by president Rafael Ballester, and outlined plans to increase supporter involvement and attract new businesses to sponsor the club. The club, founded in 2012, is dedicated to preserving Torrevieja's handball heritage, which began in 1973 with nine seasons in Spain's top division.

The new season aims to restore important traditions, reinforce the club's identity, and ensure its future while maintaining its roots.
