Maple Leafs Trade Pitch Lands Connor McDavid For Matthew Knies-Led Haul

A proposed trade on the PuckGM simulation site would see the Toronto Maple Leafs acquire former Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid for a significant return package. McDavid, a future Hall of Famer, would join the Leafs to potentially complete his legendary career. However, the trade would come at a steep price, including Toronto left-wing Matthew Knies, who is recognized as one of the team's top prospects.

The trade would also involve Toronto sending forward Ben Danford, winger Dakota Joshua, and two first-round picks to Edmonton. In exchange, they would receive McDavid, who has won numerous awards, including three Hart Trophies, a Rocket Richard, six Art Ross titles, and five Ted Lindsay Awards. Knies, a 23-year-old power winger, has accumulated 160 points across 240 NHL games.

While the trade would provide Toronto with a star player, it would also entail surrendering some of their top prospects, including Danford, the organization's third-best prospect, and Joshua, who has a $3.25 million cap hit through 2027-28. PuckGM projections show Toronto facing a projected cap hit of $107.3 million with no room left and 22 of 23 roster spots filled.
