Man Rolls Up to Police Station With Pickup Truck Full of Torn Up Flock Cameras

While other vandals dismantling automatic license plate readers prefer to remain anonymous, Albuquerque resident Jevon Martinez fearlessly displays his face. Following the cancellation of Flock's surveillance contract by Bernalillo County officials earlier this year, Martinez observed the ALPRs remaining in place. In a series of social media videos spotlighted by KOB4, Martinez captured himself dismantling the camera towers with the intention of returning them to their rightful owners.

"Since [Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department] is busy—I know BCSO is busy, everyone who works for BCSO, I know you guys are busy, so I went ahead and helped you out," Martinez is heard saying as he drives his pickup truck, the bed of which is loaded with ALPR components. "We got a bunch of these bad boys," he proclaimed in another video, displaying a truck bed filled to the brim with tower parts.

"Let's see how much I can get in one day. That's gonna be the challenge for everyone out there." Assuming the role of a helpful citizen, Martinez delivered his literal truckload of ALPR debris directly to the Sheriff's department, where he was swiftly placed under arrest. Although unarmed and not involved in any violent act, officers responded with a show of force as they apprehended Martinez.

Fully equipped with ballistic-resistant plate carriers, deputies surrounded Martinez's truck, brandishing their firearms and escorting him into custody. "Is this a crime? I don't think so," Martinez asserted in one of his videos. "Neither does the public. I'm just liberating my people from tyranny." He is hailed as a legend and deserves freedom according to supporters.
