Malaysia probes claim subsidised padi fertiliser smuggled into Thailand for bomb-making

Malaysia and Thailand are investigating claims that subsidized padi fertiliser was smuggled from Malaysia to Thailand for bomb-making purposes, according to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. The Malaysian and Thai police will conduct their respective investigations using bilateral mechanisms, including government-to-government engagement, the Border Working Group, and Police-to-Police (P-to-P) cooperation.

Saifuddin emphasized that border-related issues should be addressed through established channels to avoid escalating tensions or mutual suspicion. The P-to-P cooperation allows enforcement authorities from both countries to communicate and discuss security matters continuously. The Border Working Group serves as another platform for discussing border-related matters.

The RM80.01 million Region Three Marine Police Base, implemented by PBLT Sdn Bhd, is expected to begin operations in November with 111 officers and personnel. The base, which includes various facilities, aims to strengthen enforcement and maritime security along the East Coast, safeguarding the country's waters from threats such as drug and firearm smuggling, illegal immigrant and refugee landings, and fishermen incursions.
