Kuwait says air defences intercept Iranian missiles and drones as Tehran targets US allies across region

KUWAIT CITY, September 3 — Kuwait’s military reported intercepting a missile and drone strike launched from Iran, amid Tehran’s ongoing targeting of US allies in the Middle East. Iran has launched strikes against US bases in Kuwait, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan region following a heavy US bombardment of sites across the Islamic republic on Tuesday.

Kuwait’s army announced on X that the country's air defenses are currently engaged in combating hostile missile and drone attacks in response to Iran's aggression. Iran's state-run TV confirmed Tehran's targeting of US bases in Kuwait as retaliation for US actions against the Iranian people. The fury in Iran erupted after the Iranian Red Crescent reported that a US strike killed four individuals, including a child, at a wedding in the country’s south, causing over 50 injuries.

In response, Washington did not directly address the incident, with a Centcom spokesman stating, "the US military never targets civilians, unlike the IRGC," referring to Iran's Revolutionary Guards. The escalation of conflict began when Washington attacked Iranian targets on Sunday, marking the first known strikes in several weeks.
