Killed by police or in hiding: Allahabad HC orders CBI probe into ‘disappearance’ of man with 30 criminal cases

The Allahabad High Court ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the disappearance of Muttliv, a man with a history of 30 criminal cases in Muzaffarnagar district. The court suspected either the local police killed him or he is hiding to avoid legal proceedings. Muttliv's brother, Alam, accused the Purkazi police station of detaining his brother and father, Sharafat, on May 4, 2023, stating that while his father was released on May 7, Muttliv remains missing.

The police denied any detention and claimed they were searching for Muttliv to serve warrants. The court's order directs the CBI to investigate the mishandling of police records and warrants, and the lack of earnest efforts to find Muttliv.
