Keralam seeks Mullaperiyar safety review as per 2025 ToR

In Keralam, state government adviser James Wilson has urged the Supreme Court-appointed panel overseeing the Mullaperiyar dam safety assessment to adhere strictly to the terms of reference established in August 2025. Wilson outlined the panel's recent field inspection, during which they examined the main dam, baby dam, earthen dam, and spillway, as well as heard submissions from both Keralam and Tamil Nadu.

He emphasized that all safety concerns have been presented to the committee in detail, with the primary demand being a strict adherence to the 2025 terms of reference. Wilson explained that the committee has acknowledged Keralam's concerns, which encompass four main areas: hydrological safety, structural safety, seismic safety, and issues related to dam seepage.

He noted that the panel, headed by former National Hydroelectric Power Corporation CMD Balraj Joshi, is expected to submit its report to the National Dam Safety Authority within 10 to 15 days. The ongoing dispute between Kerala and Tamil Nadu centers on the dam's safety, with each state holding divergent views on its stability.
