Juan Fernando Quintero Retires From Colombia’s National Team

Colombian soccer midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero announced his retirement from the national team at the age of 33, citing the disappointment of Colombia's elimination from the 2026 World Cup as the main factor. The midfielder, who spent 14 years with the team, expressed his decision in an interview with Win Sports, stating, "I said I was stepping aside because I felt my time had come."

Quintero's departure was influenced by the round of 16 loss to Switzerland, which ended in a penalty shootout defeat. The loss deeply affected him, leaving him unable to sleep for several nights.

Quintero's career with the Colombian national team spanned 53 matches, resulting in six goals and 12 assists. He made his debut in a friendly against Cameroon in 2012 and went on to participate in three World Cups, including the 2024 Copa America.
