Jogye Order elects Ven. Jinwoo as new leader

Ven. Jinwoo, the current head of South Korea's largest Buddhist sect, the Jogye Order, has been re-elected for another four-year term. His victory came after securing 57% of the votes, surpassing Ven. Gyeongwoo who received 43%. This marks the second time in the Jogye Order's history that Jinwoo has been elected to the top position, following Ven.

Jaseung's second term in 2013. Upon his re-election, Jinwoo expressed his commitment to ushering in a new century for Korean Buddhism and vowed to embrace all voters, stabilize the order, and make Buddhism more dynamic and youthful. As the leader of the Jogye Order, he will manage over 3,500 temples and 12,000 monks across the country, starting his term on September 28 after receiving approval from the order's elders assembly.
