Jaecoo J5 EV arrives with 461km range and lifestyle-friendly features

The Jaecoo J5 EV, Malaysia's first electric vehicle offering from Omoda & Jaecoo, has been introduced to the market, boasting an impressive 461km range and a host of lifestyle-friendly features. Priced at RM118,800, this compact electric SUV is the brand's maiden fully electric model in the country. Its design caters to the everyday needs of its users, with practical features such as Pet Mode, Camping Mode, and 3.3kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability.

The latter enables the vehicle to power compatible electrical equipment, making it ideal for outdoor trips or charging small appliances on the go.

The interior features a 1.45m panoramic glass roof, creating a brighter and more open cabin, along with 35 litres of front trunk space and 480 litres of boot space. Folding the rear seats expands the cargo capacity up to a remarkable 1,284 litres. With a ground clearance of 174mm and a wading depth of 450mm, the J5 EV is built to handle various terrains. Its electric motor generates 155kW and 288Nm of torque, resulting in a 0-100kph acceleration time of 7.7 seconds.

Powered by a 58.9kWh lithium iron phosphate battery from CATL, the J5 EV supports 11kW AC charging, taking approximately seven hours to charge from 10% to 100%. The SUV comes with a 540-degree HD surround-view system, aiding drivers in parking and providing a clearer view of the surrounding area. Equipped with 19 Level 2+ advanced driver-assistance features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, and autonomous emergency braking, the J5 EV prioritizes safety and driver-assistance technology.

Chris Tan, head of Omoda & Jaecoo Malaysia, emphasized that the J5 EV is designed as a lifestyle SUV, combining performance, technology, practicality, and the freedom to explore. Jaecoo offers a seven-year or 150,000km vehicle warranty and a 10-year or 200,000km warranty for the high-voltage battery for its first-time EV buyers.

The company has established a robust network of 56 showrooms and 53 service centers to support EV customers in Malaysia. The J5 EV is locally assembled at the Chery Corporate Malaysia plant in Shah Alam, marking the brand's entry into local new-energy vehicle production. Expect deliveries to commence by October 31, with the vehicle available in Alpine Green, Fjord Grey, and Carbon Crystal Black.

For the first 1,000 deliveries, customers will receive a launch package valued at RM10,000, including a year of insurance, data connectivity, a 7kW home charger, a V2L connector, and various lifestyle accessories. At RM118,800 on the road (without insurance), the J5 EV enters a competitive electric SUV market, offering a proposition centered around making an EV work around everyday life.
