Ipoh police probe viral video of two children sitting on roof of moving MPV

IPOH, September 3 — The police in Ipoh are currently investigating a video that has gone viral on social media, showing two children sitting on the roof of a moving multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), reported Astro Awani. Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Najib Hamzah, the Ipoh district police chief, stated that the police have not yet received any reports regarding the incident.

However, he mentioned that they are tracking down the owner of the vehicle. "We will identify [the owner]. If they are indeed children, we will investigate the matter under the Child Act 2001," he was quoted as saying during a recent interview. The video, which circulated widely on social media platforms yesterday, depicted two girls perched on the roof of a luxury Toyota Alphard MPV.

It was believed that the children had scaled out through the vehicle’s sunroof while it was in motion along the road. The incident is said to have occurred between the Meru exit and Jalan Jelapang-Simpang Pulai, near the North-South Expressway. A recording made by a passerby sparked criticism from netizens over the potential risk to the children's safety.
