Investment minister witnesses signing of MoU between Mansour, China’s Tianneng to explore battery manufacturing

On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, Mohamed Farid, the Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, observed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Mansour Group and China's Tianneng Battery Group Co Ltd. The MoU aimed to explore collaboration and investment opportunities in battery manufacturing and energy storage solutions within Egypt.

The agreement covered the examination of opportunities for producing lead-acid batteries for cars, as well as lithium batteries for electric vehicles, with the goal of enhancing Egypt's manufacturing depth, added value production, and export capabilities. Farid explained that lithium batteries and components for electric vehicles were among the promising sectors under Egypt's strategy to bolster local manufacturing.

He highlighted the country's favorable conditions for such projects, such as its strategic location, infrastructure, transportation, logistics networks, and the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE). During the project study phase, the Egyptian government pledged to provide assistance, including the availability of suitable industrial sites and streamlining procedures for land allocation and preparation after a final site was chosen.

Eric Xu, Tianneng's Vice President and head of International Business, presented the group's extensive experience in battery manufacturing, spanning over four decades. Tianneng's product range encompassed various battery technologies, including lead-acid, lithium, sodium-ion, and solid-state batteries. With a leading position in China's lead-acid battery production, Tianneng expressed its interest in partnering with Mansour Group and investigating investment prospects in Egypt, stressing the country's market potential and strategic geographic location.

The signing ceremony was also attended by Mostafa Sheikhoun, the Chairman of SCZONE. The agreement concluded with a commitment to further coordination among Mansour Group, Tianneng, and relevant government entities to finalize studies on the project, determine its location and target product portfolio, and facilitate implementation, thus promoting battery manufacturing localization and bolstering Chinese investment in Egypt.
