Indian founder who paid Rs58 crore tax shares Gurugram garbage photo

Doctor-turned-entrepreneur Aniruddha Malpani has sparked controversy online after disclosing that he paid over Rs58 crore in taxes for the financial year 2025-26. The wealthy individual shared a screenshot of his tax payment on X, showing a sum of Rs58,08,78,000. While Malpani expressed no objection to paying taxes, he questioned whether taxpayers receive adequate value in return through public services and infrastructure.

"I don't mind paying taxes, but it bothers me that I don't get value for money on this expenditure!" Malpani wrote.

Alongside the tax payment screenshot, Malpani posted a photograph of poor civic conditions in Gurugram’s Sector 23 area, including garbage and damaged roads. He captioned the image, "This is what our taxes fund!" The disclosure of his hefty tax payment and accompanying photo of subpar civic infrastructure generated strong reactions on social media.

Some users suggested Malpani should consider relocating to a jurisdiction with lower taxes, but Malpani rejected this notion. He clarified that he earned his income in India and was comfortable paying taxes there. "I earned this money in India, so I am quite happy to pay it back to the government as taxes. All I am asking for is they deliver value for the money which they collect from me. Is that asking too much?"

Malpani, a doctor, entrepreneur and investor based in Mumbai, is associated with the Malpani Infertility Clinic and the investment firm Malpani Ventures. He is known for using social media to voice opinions on healthcare, entrepreneurship and civic issues.
