Incumbent Quebec minister directs F-word at Trump in radio interview

Montreal - Incumbent Quebec Minister Bernard Drainville directed the F-word at American President Donald Trump during a radio interview on Wednesday, sparking comparisons to Ontario Premier Doug Ford. Drainville, the incumbent economy minister, expressed his frustration over the breakdown of trade negotiations between Canada and the United States.

He stated, “F–k you, e–i!” while discussing the issue. The politician later apologized for his choice of words, but his indignation remained intact. Drainville's comments have been likened to Ford's earlier remark, where Ford directed Trump to "kiss (his) ass" in late August. Coalition Avenir Québec leader Christine Fréchette had urged Drainville to retract his statement.

Social media users drew parallels between the two politicians, highlighting the emphasis on the trade war with the United States during the electoral campaign. Political science professor Daniel Béland from McGill University noted that Drinfeld's choice of words might have been influenced by Ford's rhetoric, as Fréchette's party has been focusing on this topic during the election.
