How do European squad lists work?

European squad lists consist of two separate lists - List A and List B - with specific criteria for registration. List A, with a maximum of 25 players, includes a minimum of eight locally-trained squad members, with no more than four association-trained players. The list must include at least two goalkeepers, with a total of at least three goalkeepers across both lists.

List B, with no upper limit, caters to more junior members and has different eligibility requirements. List A squad members are locked in for the league phases of European competitions after September, but clubs can register up to three new players in the knockout stages. Uefa recognizes two categories of locally-trained players: club-trained and association-trained. Goalkeepers have special replacement rules, different from outfield players.
