HC asks DGP to come up with SOPs over police protection to enforce court decrees

The Telangana High Court has directed the Director General of Police to draft Standard Operating Procedures to ensure district police officials provide protection to those enforcing court orders. This recommendation stems from a recurring issue where decree holders are compelled to seek High Court intervention to enforce executing court orders.

A recent appeal highlighted the case of a couple in Athmakur mandal of Yadadri Bhongir district who secured a decree over a property from a Junior Civil Judge in Alair. Despite the district Superintendent of Police, Choutuppal sub-divisional police officer, and the station house officer of Atmakur being instructed to provide police protection, the couple's appeal to the High Court indicated that their requests were not acted upon.

The bench acknowledged the frequency of such situations, suggesting that SOPs could prevent unnecessary litigation in the High Court. The bench granted three weeks for the Government Pleader for Home to consult with the DGP, emphasizing the need to address this issue at a higher authority level.
