Hamidin stays out, Ghani and Shahril fight for FAM president post

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is set for a contest between two candidates for its presidency, with Ab Ghani Hassan and Shahril Mokhtar facing off in the upcoming election. Ghani, who currently holds the position of Malaysian Football League president, and Shahril, deputy president of the Selangor Football Association, are the only two candidates for the top role.

Hamidin Amin, who was appointed FAM honorary president last June, has decided not to run for the executive committee position. He was appointed to the honorary presidency at the FAM’s annual congress in June 2024.

In addition to the contest for the presidency, there are multiple candidates vying for various executive committee positions. In the state football association category, there are seven candidates for three positions, while in the club category, there are five candidates for two positions.

The FAM election committee chairman, Abdullah Said, confirmed that all nominations have undergone a review and verification process in line with FAM's statutes, rules, and election procedures. The full list of candidates has been provided, including those for the presidency, vice-presidents, and executive committee members for both state football associations and clubs.
