GoodRx offers health subscription for families, to launch as employee benefit in 2027

GoodRx, the prescription drug savings platform, has announced plans to launch a family healthcare subscription called Companion as an employee benefit in 2027. This program will provide access to common medical services and over 250 generic medications for a monthly fee of $24.99 per family member. Currently, the subscription is available directly to individual consumers for $14.99 per month.

GoodRx CEO Wendy Barnes revealed that the Companion program was created to combat affordability gaps families face amid evolving health insurance coverage. Rising deductibles, out-of-pocket costs, and coverage restrictions have resulted in insurance no longer guaranteeing affordable access to care. Barnes noted that affordability tools often target individual patients rather than the broader household.

GoodRx is already in talks with employers interested in offering the Companion program as a benefit, with these partnerships set to commence on January 1, 2027. Employers have the option to subsidize the membership costs, with employees responsible for any residual portion of the fee. The Companion program's revenue grew by 39% year-over-year in the second quarter, exceeding expectations.

As healthcare costs are expected to rise by 9.2% in 2027 if employers do not implement cost mitigation measures, Barnes emphasized that pressure on insured consumers could be just as detrimental as the number of people losing coverage. Even individuals with insurance may still struggle to afford prescription prices.
