GMTF Administrator hails Mintah Akandoh’s support as Fund marks first year

Obuobia Darko-Opoku, Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), has commended Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh for his support and guidance during the Fund's first year of operation. In a message celebrating the Fund's anniversary, Darko-Opoku described Akandoh as more than merely the health sector minister, highlighting his crucial role in shaping key decisions and navigating challenges.

According to Darko-Opoku, the progress achieved by the GMTF resulted from extensive consultations, lengthy meetings, back-and-forth discussions, and the necessity to make difficult decisions. She emphasized that while the end result may appear effortless, there are numerous "conversations behind it; the long meeting hours, the back-and-forth, the dawn phone calls, the tough questions, and most importantly, the very difficult decisions we have sometimes had to sit down and make."

The Administrator particularly praised Akandoh for his collaborative approach to tackling complex decisions, rather than opting for quick answers. Darko-Opoku expressed her gratitude for the Minister's patience, guidance, and candor, describing it as a well-deserved moment of recognition for his contributions to the Fund's work.

She emphasized that while the Fund's first year was an achievement, it should not mark a period of relaxation, but rather an opportunity to continue confronting tough decisions and expanding their support for Ghana's healthcare system.

Darko-Opoku concluded her message with a prayer for the Health Minister, hoping for continued blessings, strength, wisdom, and grace as he leads the health sector. She publicly thanked Akandoh for his guidance, candor, patience, and countless moments of support.
