GMTF Administrator applauds NHIA boss on Fund’s first anniversary

The Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, has praised the Director-General of the National Health Insurance Authority, Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, for his substantial contribution to the creation and development of the Fund. According to Ms Darko-Opoku, the secondment of NHIA employees to the GMTF during its early stages provided the Fund with vital expertise and institutional knowledge to set up its systems and processes.

In a message celebrating the Fund's first anniversary, the Administrator highlighted that building the Fund from scratch required establishing systems, uniting people, and creating processes, making the NHIA's support particularly valuable. She emphasized that the seconded staff did more than provide additional manpower, noting that they brought "rich experience, institutional knowledge and a deep understanding of the work" to the Fund.

Ms Darko-Opoku also commended Dr Bampoe for his ongoing availability and guidance when the Fund faced challenges or needed to reconsider its approach to difficult issues. The Administrator stressed that Dr Bampoe's contribution extended beyond providing advice from afar, describing him as someone who actively participated in the Fund's development.

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund, established to mobilize resources for critical illness treatment and improve access to specialized healthcare, has marked its first year of operations with various interventions and partnerships in the health sector.
